Nearly 300,000 Shears Recalled for Serious Injury Risk

DES MOINES, Iowa — Nearly 300,000 shears have been recalled due to the risk of serious injury.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported the handles on about 277,000 Fiskars 32-inch Bypass Lopper Shears have can break during use, posing a risk of serious injury and laceration. The shears are sold exclusively at Home Depot stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The shears were first recalled in October 2014 after 10 injuries were reported. At least 23 additional incidents have been reported, prompting the latest recall.

The recalled product has a model number of 6954 and were sold between May 2011 and June 2014.

Users reported of pinched fingers, bruising and injuries to the head and face, some of which required stitches, CPSC reports.

If you own these shears, you are asked to immediately stop using them and contact Fiskars for a free replacement. Consumers can call Fiskars at 855-544-0151.
