NORTHFIELD, Illinois — Kraft Foods has issued a voluntary recall for 260 cases of Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese Product thought to have been distributed in the Midwest.

Company officials say the product doesn’t contain enough sorbic acid, an ingredient used as a preservative. The incorrect levels could cause the product to spoil early or lead to food borne illness.

The affected Veleveeta was shipped to three Walmart distribution centers and may have been sent to Walmart stores in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The UPC code for products involved in the recall is 021000611614. The date stamp is “17 DEC 2014,” and the time frame is between 10:54 and 14:35.

Consumers can return the product to the store where they bought it for a full refund.
